RESPONSIBILITIES
The purpose of the Equipment Custodian position is to manage laboratory instrumentation and its maintenance program and provide technical expertise, which will result in a high level of equipment reliability, for the site's present and future needs.
This person is responsible for ensuring that equipment is purchased, qualified, preventive and corrective maintenance is performed and documented properly, and that all related documentation is maintained. Responsibilities may include managing equipment for multiple users.
General oversight of laboratory instruments
Total ownership
Audit ready at all times (regulatory and safety)
Ensure that all equipment that generates data are uniquely identified
Ensure that all PMs are performed at the required intervals and approved job plans are followed
Work with equipment owners, vendor and area shops in scheduling PMs and corrective maintenance activities
Submits laboratory work request via CMMS
Ensure all individuals that repair or maintain the equipment are qualified to do so
Ensure vendors are GMP providers
Approved vendors and meet all safety requirements per Lilly contract safety policies
Ensure vendor's Field Service Reports (FSR) are filed (documented in CMMS) < 5 days of work completion
Vendor management, PO creation and vendor escort
Create and Report on vendor performance quarterly
May perform maintenance activities if by education, training or experience, they are qualified to perform the activities
For New Equipment works with equipment owner to ensure:
Maintenance plans, PM
For Custom Built Equipment - the design and intended use must be documented (i.e. user requirements and design qualification)
Ensure proper facilities (gases, electrical) are in place
Appropriately tag new assets (Property Tag)
Ensure electrical checks are completed
For Retired Equipment works with equipment owner to ensure:
Prepare required documents (decon, physical transfer, GMARS and asset recovery)
Physically move from lab or have removed
Ship to dock
Performs other duties as assigned.
No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position. May provide informal assistance such as technical guidance and/or training to coworkers. May coordinate work and assign tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) required and a minimum of four years of related experience or equivalent work experience; pharmaceutical and/or GMP experience.
Bachelor's degree in a scientific field of study preferred or 2 - year degree with equivalent combination of education and experience with laboratory instrumentation preferred.
Previous customer service or administration experience preferred.
Experience working in a laboratory preferred.
Working knowledge of CMMS preferred. Maximo experience is highly preferred.
Working knowledge of MS Office preferred. Ability to take direction and work as a member of a team preferred.
Able to interact with a wide variety of shop floor maintenance craftspeople, operators and laboratory personnel preferred.
Preferred: Results oriented. Sense of urgency. Collaborative. Service oriented.
Ability to make and communicate logical decisions using data, both verbally and in writing preferred.
Read, write and interpret technical and management documents in English language preferred.
Able to distinguish color preferred.
Position involves significant interaction with variety of areas including laboratory personnel, maintenance technicians, process engineers, project engineers, craftspeople, vendors, maintenance supervisors, maintenance managers, planners, schedulers, and stores personnel.

Ability to comprehend and interpret instructions, short correspondence, and memos and ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, and/or supervisor. Ability to effectively present information to an internal department and/or large groups of employees.
Requires basic knowledge of financial terms and principles. Ability to calculate simple figures such as percentages.
Ability to understand and carry out general instructions in standard situations. Ability to solve problems in standard situations. Requires basic analytical skills.
Experience with Desktop publishing, Microsoft Office Suite, and Online Help.
Knowledge of GxP and understanding of a lab instrument services environment.
Experience working with databases and/or systems.
Decisions made with general understanding of procedures and company policies to achieve set results and deadlines. Errors in judgment may cause short-term impact to co-workers and supervisor.
