The firm has invested more than $1 billion in equity and aggregated a portfolio of over $4 billion, consisting of more than 10,000 units of class A multifamily real estate.

Position Overview:
The Director of Accounting will be responsible for preparing financial statements for fund vehicles and their respective investment entities as well as working with the accounting and portfolio management teams to ensure monthly distributions are calculated and processed on a timely basis. This position will be primarily accountable for the accurate and timely accounting and reporting for the company’s portfolio and will oversee third party property management finance teams, third party accountants and banks at which the company’s investment vehicles hold funds and from which monthly distributions to investors are made as it relates to their assigned fund(s).

The ideal candidate must have a strong technical accounting background, be comfortable and confident navigating through new and complex accounting matters, have outstanding communication and writing skills, be attentive to details and deadlines and be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks while working in a team environment. Further, the Director of Accounting will be one of the firm’s primary reviewers of property-level monthly and quarterly financial statements and supporting workpapers. The Director of Accounting will work collaboratively with the firm’s Head of Accounting.

Key Responsibilities:
•Ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of:
•Monthly investor distributions
•Monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and/or financial results.
•Monthly, quarterly, and annual performance returns.
•Quarterly data submission in support of various industry organizations and consultants / clients.
•Client account statements and reporting including K1.
•Maintaining workpapers to support the Fund’s performance and operations.
•Work closely with Investor Relations on investor information requests.
•Review monthly and quarterly property level financial statements and supporting reconciliations and workpapers which may include operating properties and / or development properties.
•Interact directly with other members of the Accounting Team, Portfolio Management Team, and external auditors.
•Support Portfolio Management and the Asset Managers in on-going operational matters.
•Assist with financial internal controls and best practices.

Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in accounting, master’s degree and / or CPA preferred.
•Approximately 10 + years’ professional experience in accounting, preferably with a large public accounting firm with a focus on private real estate clients.
•Strong technical accounting background.
•Strong command of fund and real estate accounting concepts.
•Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) as it relates to fair market value of real estate and fund accounting.
•Familiarity with GAAP research tools and the FASB codification.
•Knowledge of and experience with REIT structures and taxation.
•Effective problem-solving skills and sound judgement.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Ability to function in a team-oriented setting.
•Strong organizational skills and the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks with a high attention to detail.
•Tenacity toward meeting deadlines, with a strong sense of urgency and good self-management discipline.
•Ability to work accurately and efficiently.
•Strong ethical character and a sense of humor.
•Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel.
