The Development Investment Analyst will provide quantitative and qualitative analysis, project management and reporting support for the Berkshire Development Investments team. The ability to independently manage multiple priorities and demonstrate flexibility will be critical.  This position will support projects of various scope and complexity.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Under the general direction of the VP/AVP – Development Investments, the Analyst will be expected to perform the following functions:

  • Underwrite Multifamily and Senior Housing Development Investment Opportunities using Excel development proformas
  • Assist in composing written summaries, memoranda and presentations regarding potential development investment opportunities for review by the Berkshire Investments Team, Portfolio Managers, Berkshire Investment Committee and Clients
  • Participate in the coordination with joint venture partners to ensure timely submission of internal and external deliverables for approval
  • Provide project management support for the oversight and monitoring of existing development investments
  • Assist in conducting due diligence on potential development investments
  • Prepare quantitative and qualitative analysis during due diligence, construction and operations
  • Self-manage a portfolio of recurring weekly, monthly and quarterly responsibilities
  • Participate in senior level internal and external meetings to manage follow up
  • Create checklists, monitor, and report on the execution of project business plans and associated milestones
  • Research and analyze market data (maps, reporting, demographics etc.)
  • Conduct market, industry and competitive research on development investments and prepare written summaries and analyses of such research
  • Assist in preparing investment committee presentations
  • Prepare ad-hoc analyses for special projects, as requested
  • 10%+ travel required

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2-6 years of professional commercial real estate experience required; multifamily development experience preferred         
  • Excellent quantitative analysis skills; experience with Excel development proformas
  • Highly Detailed and has the ability to produce excellent quality work that is thorough, accurate, complete, consistent, and able to get information when requested
  • Has excellent communication skills; written and verbal
  • Self-starter who works independently and with others; has complete ownership of work and projects
  • Builds solid and quality relationships with internal and external resources
  • Excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet competing deadlines
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work in a dynamic and fluid environment
  • Team player who exhibits a positive and collaborative attitude

Technical/ Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in related field required; Master Degree or CFA a plus
  • Excellent computer skills: advanced Excel skills and strong experience with Microsoft Suite of products, ability to perform excel modeling including IRR, Return on Cost, Cash Yields, PV Calculations and analysis; ability to become proficient at proprietary quantitative financial models
  • Strong time management/prioritization skills; ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions without specific direction

  • Have constant need to perform standing and walking activities related to inspecting property and traveling between properties

  • Constant need to complete forms, read and review reports, answer a wide variety of correspondence, view computer screen. Frequent need to see small detail

  • Will be required to travel from location to location

  • Must be able to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect pertinent data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and initiate appropriate course of action
  • Must effectively convey ideas, images and goals to a diverse group of personalities
