Keeping everything behind the scenes running safely and smoothly A facilities manager is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of a company or organization's real estate as well as its systems. Possible systems to be maintained will include the HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing as well as technology. Looking to the future

As long as buildings are operational there will be a need for a facilities manager. Every asset will have HVAC, mechanical, and electrical systems that must be constantly managed, serviced, and updated. The future challenge will be for facilities managers to stay abreast of all technological improvements to the operating systems and sustainability standards. It will be the facility managers who can most effectively manage the maintenance staff, maximize operational efficiency, and minimize costs who will be most successful. An attractive growth area within facilities management is the development, implementation, and maintenance of energy-efficient 'green' technologies.
