JOB OVERVIEW


FCPT is a public, NYSE-listed, investment grade rated real estate investment trust (REIT) with a market capitalization in excess of $2.5 billion. FCPT is focused on the ownership, acquisition and leasing of restaurant properties, and currently own a portfolio of over 600 branded restaurants across 45 states and 31 brands that are leased to leading restaurant operators. We are positioned with a strong balance sheet to grow and further diversify our portfolio.


We are seeking an exceptional candidate to join the team as a Lease Accountant reporting to the CAO. The entrepreneurial culture of the company combines a start-up environment with the backing and stability of a well-capitalized balance sheet and strong, experienced management team. This position will work as part of a small 20-person team in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment, assisting the CAO and the finance team on lease accounting. The role will also be active in supporting acquisition and asset management functions within FCPT, and will benefit from direct interaction with the finance, legal, and acquisition teams.


The lease accountant will have an active role in:
• Ensuring accuracy of lease information in the accounting system
• Properly generating tenant charges and applying tenant payments
• Managing tenants and accounts receivables with monthly invoicing, assuring timely collection of rents and proper recording of cash receipts to property specific lease terms
• Analyzing property information and lessor responsibility for real estate tax escalations and common area maintenance charges
• Creating journal entries to maintain accuracy of tenant- and property-related expense accounts
• Preparing annual tenant reconciliations and billings
• Working closely with Acquisition Team, Property Administration, and Legal to ensure proper accounting treatment and to optimize financial and operational performance of properties
• Processing monthly straight-line rent journal entries and reconciliations
• Assisting in SEC Accounting and Reporting activities
• Assisting with internal and external audit requests for SOX and 10-K/10-Q SEC filings
• Special projects as required


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business; CPA preferred but not required
• Minimum of 2 years of lease or property accounting experience
• Effective communication and organizational skills; ability to handle multiple priorities, self-starter
• Understanding of property management in relation to financial accounting, recoveries, budgeting and forecasting
• Experience with publicly traded companies, REIT or real estate industry preferred
• Experience with internal controls and supporting SOX requirements preferred
• Intacct software and PowerPlan a plus
