Maintenance Associate

Job Description

 

 

Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor

 

Basic Function: The Maintenance Associate works with an established team to perform semi-skilled ongoing repair and preventative maintenance of facility and building systems such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, doors and hardware, etc. Other duties include completing and maintaining required documents and work orders as directed and according to established procedures, performing routine inspections and preventative maintenance of the buildings, mechanical and other systems as required and according to established procedures. Assists inspectors, manufacturer representatives, engineers, and others as required and/or directed. Supports the customer service initiatives of the Physical Plant Department and The Lovett School as required.

 

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

 

Work Hours: Monday – Friday 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. with flexibility to work overtime.                  

 

Potential Functions of Position:

 

Electrical work skills and tasks:

  • Safely and properly work around and with electricity and electrical circuitry.
  • Repair/replace fuses, ballasts, electric switches, outlets, and other electrical equipment following electrical specifications.
  • Replace light bulbs or fluorescent tubes.

Plumbing work skills and tasks:

  • Faucet repair or replacement.
  • Commode and urinal repair or replacement.
  • Leaky pipe repair or replacement.
  • Unstop backed up drains and commodes.

Carpentry work skills and tasks:

  • Safely and properly operate a table saw, circular saw, belt sander, drill press, etc.
  • Safely and properly operate electric hand tools such as a drill, screw gun, sander, etc.
  • Safely and properly operate pneumatic tools.

General work skills and tasks:

  • Ability to safely and properly use hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, saws, etc.
  • Remove broken windows and replace using putty or other appropriate methods.
  • Repair or replace door hardware – i.e. locks, closers, panic devices, etc.
  • Assemble various projects and equipment – i.e. shelving units, furniture, etc.
  • Set up and break down special event equipment – i.e. modular stage, temporary seating, etc.
  • Prepare paint, finish surfaces, and equipment using paintbrushes, sanders, scrapers, and other painting tools.

Position requirements:         

  • Possess a valid Georgia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Possess 2-3 years of maintenance work, degree work, or apprenticeship.
  • Possess a working knowledge of the accepted practices, processes, materials, and tools of the maintenance trades.
  • Flexibility to handle a variety of tasks and shift priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff and external contacts; ability to work as an effective team member.
  • Must be able to comprehend and understand blueprints/drawings/diagrams.
  • High level of initiative and ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to perform a full range of maintenance work assignments using independent judgment to make decisions requiring the application of procedures and practices to specific work situation.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
