POSITION SUMMARY

 

The primary role of the Property Accountant is to perform accounting duties related to the accurate creation of the monthly financial statements, the daily cash receipts, and A/P processes at each entity. The position ensures that all property accounting policies and procedures are properly followed. The position also performs other accounting related duties as the need arises.

 

COMPANY DESCRIPTION

 

Brick Lane is a real estate development and investment firm that was established in 2010 to capitalize on the strength and expansion of the Mid-Atlantic multi-housing and condominium markets.  Brick Lane has acquired, delivered or is under development on more than 1.2 million square feet of apartment and mixed-use projects in Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland.  In addition to developing mixed-use projects around the DC Metropolitan area, Brick Lane actively searches for stabilized apartment building acquisitions in the Mid-Atlantic in markets with strong, diversified economies and healthy tenant bases.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

 

  • Create financials statements for internal and external use for each of the properties assigned including posting journal entries, making accruals, and performing bank reconciliations.
  • Lead on creating property financial statements as required on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Establishing and maintaining professional relationships with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Assist property personnel with all accounting related matters such as cash receipt collections and invoice payments.
  • Coordinate with external agencies for year-end financial statement finalization and tax preparation work as requested by the controller, tax prep team, and audit staff.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant federal and state laws and regulations. 
  • Assist in documenting and monitoring internal controls.
  • Other projects as assigned.
  • Adhere to all Company Policies and Procedures.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

 

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Knowledge of Appfolio or Quickbooks is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized, self-starter with strong attention to detail and proven ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a team and in a collaborative manner with all levels within the organization and external owners and agencies.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

 

  • Minimum 2 years accounting or related experience 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting desired but not mandatory
  • Prior experience in the property management industry strongly preferred
