Overview
The Assistant Project Manager assists the Section’s Project Manager with developing the County’s OrangeCode, the form-based land development code to replace the current use-based code. This project is closely related to creating infill and redevelopment strategies; researching regulatory and financial strategies for increasing the supply of affordable housing: and conducting market area analyses that support other Planning Division work efforts. The Assistant Project Manager in this section also supervises three staff members and coordinates activities on a variety of special projects. Ideal candidates for this position would be familiar with the Orange County development framework and processes; have strong communication and organization skills; and be capable of seeking solutions to complex problems while effectively building consensus.
Representative Duties
- Assists the Project Manager in directing the section’s work program.
- Conducts and/or oversees independent research and analysis, and report preparation.
- Coordinates and manages the scope of services for various contracts with outside consultants, and ensures contractual compliance.
- Facilitates interdepartmental team meetings on code development and other Division projects as needed.
- Serves a liaison with other County departments and divisions during the drafting of various Code updates.
- Informs other internal / external entities and individuals of important work program elements.
- Prepares various PowerPoint presentations for the general public, advisory boards, and the Board of County Commissioners.
- Conducts training sessions with Section team members in order to enhance work program execution.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Engineering, Building Construction, Architecture, Planning, Business Administration or a closely related and three years of progressive experience in aforementioned area and two years of project management experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Preferences
AICP certification and/or CNU or LEED accreditation.
