About Us:
Tsawwassen First Nation (TFN) is a proud Coast Salish nation south of the Fraser River along the Salish Sea. TFN is a modern treaty First Nation under the terms of a Final Agreement with Canada and British Columbia that became effective in 2009. The Tsawwassen First Nation Final Agreement is the first modern urban treaty in British Columbia, and the first to be negotiated through the BC Treaty Commission process.

TFN is now going through a period of revival and renewal as we plan our future and work towards our goal of becoming a strong, self-sufficient and sustainable First Nation for present and future generations. With a land base of 1,800 acres (724 hectares), TFN Lands are no longer reserve lands under the Indian Act; TFN owns its lands in fee simple and operates within the BC Land Title system.

Role Summary:
TFN is seeking to appoint a new member to the Economic Development Advisory Committee. The committee advises and makes non-binding recommendations to the Economic Development Department, TFN Chief Administrative Officer, and the board of directors of the TFN Economic Development Corporation on matters regarding TFN economic development. This role requires expertise in real estate and a robust network within the industrial development market of the Lower Mainland. Residency south of the Fraser River is preferred. This role is a remunerated position.

Key Sectors and Industries:

Industrial Land Development: Situated near the Roberts Bank terminals, we engage in significant industrial land projects, offering opportunities for partnerships, leasing, and development.

Agricultural Development and Farming: Our agricultural lands are available for both leasing and development.

Construction Joint Ventures: We collaborate with numerous construction companies through joint ventures to promote regional growth and development.

Green Technology and Renewable Energy: We are actively exploring the green technology and renewable energy sectors.

Outlook:

Recent Industrial Developments: The recent 20.46-acre lease by Beedie at 4449 Salish Sea Way.

  • Phase 1 Industrial Lands - LEASED: Approximately 149 acres, including infrastructure, developed as 60-year prepaid land leases.
  • Phase 2 Industrial Lands UNDEVELOPED: Approximately 180 acres intended for development upon completion of a strategic planning process.

Approach:

TFN seeks partners for developments that:

  • Generate both short- and long-term land lease and partnership revenues.
  • Provide skills, training, and contracting and employment opportunities for TFN Members and their businesses.

These activities are guided by a strategic plan developed by the Executive Council, with community input, to direct an Advisory Committee that shares our values and possesses substantial business expertise.

Advisory Board Role:

The activities of the role include the following:

  • Provide real estate business advisory services.
  • Review and evaluate potential opportunities alongside staff.
  • Ensure that recommendations serve the best interests of TFN and its members.
  • Make recommendations to the Economic Development Department, TFN Chief Administrative Officer and the board of directors of the TFN Economic Development Corporation.
  • Attend Committee meetings as required (typically 4-7 meetings per year).

We seek individuals who are the right fit:

  • Aligned with TFN values.
  • Have experience or positive attitude working with First Nations.
  • Demonstrate a strong track record of historical business performance.
  • Possess access to relevant opportunities and a strong network.

Remuneration: This Advisory Committee position offers annual remuneration of $7,500
