Overview of the position.
The Missner Group is looking for a highly motivated, innovative construction estimator to join our team. The Construction Estimator will work alongside our construction and real estate development teams in the estimation, budgeting, and bidding of all projects. The Construction Estimator’s main responsibility will be to estimate the variety of work from industrial and commercial projects to medical, retail, multi-family, and specialty construction. A large portion of our work is either negotiated and or design build enabling the estimating team to be involved from the inception of the project. Additionally, we do “hard bid” plan and spec. We are team oriented with significant collaboration between the project management, business development and estimating teams collaborating on the process of successfully solidifying the work we pursue.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:
- Work with the entire preconstruction, project management and sales team in various capacities.
- Estimate projects from conceptual design through construction document phases.
- Review and scope subcontractor proposals using detailed bid analysis sheets.
- Prepare quantity takeoffs for individual trade work.
- Strengthen subcontractor relations and include new subcontractors for future bidding.
- Maintain and update historical cost record including subcontractor database.
- Maintain current subcontractor unit pricing and overall building SF costs.
- Assist in negotiation, awarding and preparing subcontract agreements with Project Management.
- Accurately estimate project general condition costs and provide preliminary project schedule.
- Explore documentation to gain a deep understanding of the project requirements.
- Visit sites and other venues necessary to do the estimate.
- Create and present reports to upper management.
- Analyze and evaluate offers.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with the key vendors.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- A bachelor's degree in a construction related field.
- Minimum 5 years of general contracting construction-estimating experience in the industrial, retail, commercial, office and healthcare fields.
- High-degree of analytical skills.
- Knowledge of materials, methods and processes.
- Plan and specification interpretation.
- Significant strength in design/build estimating all sub trades.
- Able to clearly and effectively present detailed information to Project Management team.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to estimate multiple projects at any given time.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
- Ability to schedule, delegate and prioritize workload.
- Knowledge in Procore, Microsoft 365/teams and bidding software platforms.
- Understanding of corporate and industry processes, standards and their impact on project estimate being provided to client.
- Knowledge of municipal processes on permitting and entitlement.
