Description


The  in the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan is seeking a practice-track faculty member to teach in  and provide leadership as the director for real estate initiatives at Taubman College. Applicants should have interest in educating both professionally oriented students and future scholars and are expected to be widely recognized for their scholarly and/or creative and professional work.

The real estate initiative, with a national advisory board of distinguished industry leaders, aims to strengthen the curriculum in real estate development at the University, conduct research in this interdisciplinary field, and enhance and reform professional practice. The initiative includes the graduate Real Estate Certificate and an undergraduate real estate minor, both of which focus on the making of well-designed, livable, and sustainable places that offer a high quality of life in mixed-use, compact, walkable, and transit-oriented built environments. The certificate enrolls approximately 20-30 students annually and gives students in any master's degree program at the University the opportunity to take a range of courses that deepen their knowledge and qualifications in real estate development and related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Untenured appointment for a five-year term, with reappointment and promotion subject to review
  • Teach two courses per year (one each in the fall/winter semesters) with the option of increasing the appointment to three courses per year under some circumstances
  • Serve as the faculty director to oversee Taubman College’s graduate real estate certificate and the undergraduate minor 
  • Participate in the ongoing intellectual development and administrative governance of the Urban and Regional Planning Program
  • Engage in professional practice outside of the University of Michigan

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in real estate, urban and regional planning, or an equivalent degree from a related discipline
  • Four years of demonstrated and recognized professional work experience
  • Some teaching experience
