Description
EQUITYMULTIPLE has an immediate opening for a highly motivated and entrepreneurial Chief Accounting Officer to manage and oversee all strategic financial planning, accounting, treasury and cash management functions and ensure compliance with accounting policy and regulatory compliance. You will join a passionate and experienced team whose goal is to make real estate investing simple, transparent, and accessible for self-directed investors. You must be able to take large amounts of accounting information, analyze results, and make changes where necessary to benefit the company.
This position is located in Manhattan, however, due to the impacts of COVID-19 EquityMultiple is operating in a hybrid remote and in-person office through the end of 2021. In 2022, full return to the office is expected.
Chief Accounting Officer Job Duties and Responsibilities

- Report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
- Recruit, manage, and oversee all accounting department personnel
- Coordinate accounting functions and programs
- Create accounting strategies to maximize profits
- Manage payroll and taxes
- Regularly examine financial statements and ensure they are accurate and free of any errors
- Organize and update financial records; monitor all bookkeeping
- Prepare budgets and financial models to help guide strategic financial planning
- Analyze accounts and suggest improvements to reduce costs and increase profits
- Make sure all financial data adheres to current tax laws and regulations
- Perform risk management
- Stay abreast of industry changes and current tax/accounting laws
- Prepare, manage and present regular reports
- Manage outside auditors
- Represent the accounting department at board meetings
- Prepare regulatory filings and related compliance reporting

Chief Accounting Officer Job Requirements and Qualifications

- Experience in a Registered Investment Advisor (“RIA”) regulatory environment preferred
- Ability to inspire, build and manage a team of accounting and operationally focused professionals
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- CPA Certification; continuing Professional Education (CPE) requirements
- 10+ years experience in a senior accounting position, real estate accounting experience preferred
- Advanced knowledge of professional accounting software
- Continuing Professional Education (CPE) requirements
- Extensive business experience and strategic knowledge
- Skilled in Microsoft suite; proficient in complex accounting systems
- Highly skilled in budgeting and bookkeeping
- Excellent financial and analytical abilities and knowledge in forecasting methods
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Team player attitude
