Description


A key member of the accounting staff reporting directly to the Controller and VP Accounting. The Property Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day accounting functions required to produce monthly GAAP financial statements for properties managed by the Company. Accuracy and timeliness in the completion of the workload is required in this position. Strong communication skills, good work ethic, analytical thinking, a degree in Accounting and at least 3 years of experience are required.

 

Major Responsibilities Include:

Financial Reporting:

  • Maintain General Ledger for each assigned property
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations, balance sheet account reconciliations, and complete review of profit and loss statements for reasonableness
  • Record monthly adjusting and accrual entries
  • Update fixed asset system for additions and disposals and record monthly depreciation/amortization
  • Monitor cash balances and recommend capital calls and distributions to/from investors
  • Prepare monthly financial statement analysis according to GAAP with variance reporting
  • Compile monthly financial statement package with required supporting documentation for internal and external use
  • Distribute financials to lenders/owners
  • Assist in the annual audit and tax return preparation
  • Provide information for the annual budget preparation
  • Monitor monthly reporting including GPR, Aged AR and cash reporting

 

Accounts Receivable:

  • Record tenant receipts against monthly charges
  • Process monthly tenant billings and other miscellaneous billbacks
  • Monitor tenant accounts for overages/shortages and past due amounts
  • Review lease entries in system

 

Accounts Payable:

  • Process payable invoices: review, code and acquire proper approvals
  • Manage weekly cashflow spreadsheet to determine which payables are to be paid
  • Record electronic payments

 

Miscellaneous:

  • Provide backup for Controller
  • Assist with special projects as needed
  • Work with team members in other departments, as needed, to provide requested financial information
  • Maintain communicaiton with each assigned property s lending institution?
  • Attend other meetings as necessary
  • Additional duties as assigned by Management

 

Key Requirements:

Knowledge of RealPage / OneSite Property Management software preferred

Outstanding work ethic, ability to perform under pressure, meet deadlines, ability to prioritize, and deliver multiple tasks on time.

Good problem-solving skills, intellectual maturity, and ability to adapt to a team approach.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Work effectively as a team member, participate actively and constructively with Property Management

 

Education & Experience:

Bachelor s Degree in accounting or related field a plus but not required.

3 to 5 years of experience

Proficient in standard information technology tools, including Office products

Detail-oriented -- quality and precision-focused

Team-oriented -- cooperative and collaborative
