POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for someone who takes direction well but who has the confidence to be willing and able to work on their own. To excel in this role, you will need the knowledge to truly understand the properties and what you’re doing in terms of property accounting so that you can speak fluently about your work. We commonly refer to this position as the “Property Controller” and expect the property accountant to be involved with the development of the budget and to understand the strategic goals of the property and portfolio to which they are assigned. We are looking for a strong teammate who can jump in and get to work immediately, but we are also willing to help you learn on the job as you discover how our office and our processes work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • This Property Accountant position requires a minimum of 5 (Five) years of accounting experience. You’ll be a great fit if you have a Public Accounting background that included real estate clients or if you have commercial property management accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of GAAP with experience that demonstrates accounting competencies.
  • Experience with accounting software, particularly and preferably Yardi. Proficiency with
  • MS Office Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance.
  • Ability to work independently and accurately within tight deadlines as well as in a team-oriented environment with multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to produce written correspondence and prepare reports in a clear, concise and professional manner.
  • You communicate well with both local teammates and with remote offices.

RESPONSIBILITIES – includes the following, (but not limited to):

  • Manage monthly/quarterly/year-end closes and reporting requirements for 6-10 properties. Handling multiple G/L’s.
  • Monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Sales/use tax return preparation.
  • General ledger reconciliations.
  • Preparing monthly accrual adjustments.
  • Maintain property tax and insurance payment schedules.
  • Calculation of Straight-Line Rent.
  • Maintain balance sheet work papers.
  • Review and analyze revenue to budgets and rent rolls.
  • Assist in preparation and review of quarterly forecasts and annual budgets.
  • Analyze actual to budget variances.
  • Property management
  • Monthly CAM reconciliation true-up – calculate and analyze results
  • Understanding rent roll
  • Work closely with both the Property Management and Leasing teams.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
