Description


We are seeking a Senior Development Accountant for our Boca Raton, Florida office.  This position will join our accounting group and will have a variety of responsibilities, including accounting for investment level partnerships, development projects and multi-family real estate.  The ideal candidate will have an eye for details and be extremely organized. This position interacts frequently with our asset management, development and capital raising teams.  

What You Will Do:

  • Accounting functions for development projects during pre-development and construction phases, including monitoring budgets, tracking costs by category, preparing construction loan draws and monthly reports to development team and investors.
  • Review, analyze and reconcile financial reports that include income statements, balance sheets, general ledgers, and other support documentation, to ensure accuracy of multiple real estate assets.
  • Review General Contractor’s backup for completeness and accuracy.
  • Maintains Vendor AP files, obtaining approvals from appropriate manager, obtaining executed contracts, change orders and purchase orders, interacting with vendors and internal team members to obtain monthly invoices for preparation of draws.
  • Review, analyze and process A1A documents, including application for payment (G702 & G703) and change order (G701).
  • Oversee all phases of progress billings, invoices, and reconciliation of the WIP account for accuracy and proper job cost coding for each individual development project.
  • Assist development team in all financial aspects of the development including variance analysis, tracking of costs, and forecasting.
  • Assist in preparation of quarterly investor reports.
  • Preparation of workpapers for preparation of annual tax returns and K-1s.
  • Assist independent auditors and tax preparers in preparation of annual reports and tax returns.
  • Special projects, as assigned.

What You Will Bring:    

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in real estate development or construction cost accounting.
  • Proficiency with job costing system (Yardi preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • CPA certification a plus.
  • Intermediate Excel skills, with understanding of sumif, vlookup, pivot tables.
  • Understanding statutory requirements, including NTO (Notice to owner) and lien releases.
  • Must be knowledgeable of GAAP, related to real estate accounting and consolidations.
  • Must be able to work “hands-on” and have ability to multi-task while maintaining accuracy of work product.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to collaborate with stake holders across the organization.
