Position: Senior Property Accountant
Reports to: Controller- Property Accounting
Location: Boston, MA
Position Overview:
The Senior Property Accountant, under the supervision of the Accounting Manager and Property Controller, will perform various duties to support the monthly, quarterly and annual close process, along with providing tax accountants and auditors with information for projects assigned to them.

Company Overview:
Our client is a vertically integrated real estate company providing investment, property, construction, and development management and leasing services.

Essential Functions:

Daily/Weekly
• Project level cash analysis
• Review expenditures in Nexus (AP system) and MRI (GL system)
• Respond to internal and external inquiries


Monthly
• Record accounting transactions in accordance with GAAP
• Prepare calculations of development and cost-plus fees
• Record month-end journal entries and facilitate the closing process
• Responsible for balance sheet reconciliation (cash, AP, AR, etc)
• Responsible for maintaining the general ledger and updating supporting schedules and workbooks
• Assist in processing of debt service payments
• Assist Asset Managers with preparing and or submitting draw requests to lenders


Quarterly
• Participate in and help with quarter-end close process
• Assist with preparation of quarterly financial statements and investor reporting
• Assist with ad hoc reports to Asset Management and lenders


Annually
• Assist with preparation of financial/workpaper support for auditors
• Assist with financial statement preparation & footnote disclosure for standalone annual audits
• Prepare financial packages for tax accounts and review partnership tax returns
• Respond to tax & audit inquiries


Job Skills
• Work directly with the Accounting Manager and Property Controller on ad hoc projects
• Assist in accounting analysis on acquisitions and dispositions
• Involved with JV partners and communications
• Possess ability to understand and interpret specific legal agreements (LP Agreements, LLC agreements, Loan Agreements)
• Maintain confidentiality of all Company procedures
• Follow all Company policies and procedures
• Comply with all Company training requirements
• Maintain safe working environment
• Regular attendance at the job
• May provide administrative support: schedule meetings, general correspondence, answer telephone, set up and maintain files


Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and a minimum of 3-5 years accounting work experience. Real estate, private equity, construction and development (strongly preferred)
• System knowledge: MRI, Nexus, Excel (Vlookups, Pivot Tables); MRI experience is highly preferred
• CPA or CPA candidate preferred
• Working knowledge of partnership/fund accounting concepts
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to create positive work environment
• Well organized, and strong follow through
• Must be a self-starter who is highly motivated, deadline and detail-oriented and understands a sense of urgency
• Enjoys the challenges of supporting a small department
• Prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, and follow through on issues in a timely manner
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume in all units of measure
